How desperate are you when you pray?
God encourages desperate prayers. They are a sign of spiritual health and mature faith.
When we pray desperately, we are humble and willing to admit our helplessness. Faith is demonstrated because we know only God can meet our need. We show dependence on God because we admit our need of Him in our lives. Our prayers should be fervent “I really need You to come through, Lord!”, and continued with perseverance “I won’t give up until You show up, God!”
The great evangelist Leonard Ravenhill went so far as to suggest that desperate prayers are the most powerful kind of prayer. The more self-confidence you have, the less you pray. The less self-confidence you have, the more you have to pray.
Psalm 18:6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
